In your Yoga Teacher Training Bali vulnerability is something that will probably arise. In my experience vulnerability is central to my healing. It is something we can all learn from. There are three main reasons why this will happen during your Yoga Teacher Training. Furthermore it is a very important part of growing up and your personal journey.
Yoga Teacher Training Bali Vulnerability – #1
The first reason vulnerability is an important part of your healing journey is because you are taking a leap into a new field of practices. You are putting your faith in your teacher to guide you with care and sensitivity. It is a vulnerable place to learn new tools. This process is sometimes overwhelming for some people. There are words that you will be hearing for the first time. Some of them will be in a foreign language – Sanskrit. You may think, ‘I don’t know whether I can teach Yoga! I have only ever practiced it.’
These are natural feelings that allow you to be held by your teacher. This is actually the best place to be for growth and learning! If you think you know everything then you will not be receptive to new information. Your humility and vulnerability is a sign that says ‘I am in a space that I am open to being looked after and my teacher sharing from their heart.’ There is a saying that goes ‘You cannot fill a cup that is already full.’ So if you sometimes feel vulnerable during your Yoga Teacher Training experience then pat yourself on the back. You are definitely heading in direction towards healing and growth.
Yoga Teacher Training Bali Vulnerability – #2
The second reason vulnerability is an important part of your healing journey is because when you are vulnerable you are dropping your defences. To heal you need to let go of your fight mode. You need to be ready to soften into those parts of yourself that are usually ready to react and battle. During the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali vulnerability is prized. People listen to each other. When you ask for help and support from your teachers or fellow students you will be amazed at how much you are heard and loved. To lean on each other makes both people stronger.
Having this experience of opening up and becoming vulnerable to other people in the group is probably going to be a learning experience that allows you to receive more love after the course is over. I say that because I have seen many students who were about to get a divorce before they started the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training, but when they returned home they saved their marriage. And they tell me that they are extremely together now. I imagine that learning all about vulnerability is a very important part of the transformation in their relationship. Because vulnerability makes the people around you also drop their guard. It is no longer a war. It is no longer about who is right and who is wrong. We get beyond blame.
You and I learning this essential lesson of vulnerability together is such a gift. It helps our life to move forward in so many ways.
Yoga Teacher Training Bali Vulnerability – #3
The final reason why I feel that vulnerability is an essential part of your healing journey in the course, is that you will be able to express yourself more powerfully. It may seem like a strange thing to say, that when you are gentle you are more strong. But that is my experience as a Yoga teacher of 17 years.
You will have a much greater impact on your students, and furthermore the people in your day to day life, when you are able to communicate with the honesty of vulnerability. Vulnerability shows depth. It demonstrates that you don’t have to be in a state of attack. You can be a leader and be vulnerable. It is actually a very creative way to express oneself. Because it demonstrates courage, AND it also gives others the power and courage to overcome their shame and fears.
Here is a great TED Talk that Brené Brown explains the power of vulnerability.

In the course I teach there are three values Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali prioritises most highly. When I was creating this amazing course and also as it evolved overtime I had to dive very deep into my heart to discover what exactly I wanted it to be about. In short it comes down to the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training being about HEALING. And so all the three values Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali are based on that central principle.
Three Values Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali – #1 Healing
The First priority of the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali is that is gives every students the opportunity to deeply heal themselves. It is a space for you to self healing through the power of the Yoga practices. You will develop your personal Yoga practice of the postures (asana), and breathing techniques (pranayama), and bringing your awareness deeply into your body (meditation). Simply, I want every student to connect with themselves and feel a deep heart opening through their practice in the course.
To me in this regard the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali is very different to most other courses. Most courses put Yoga up on a pedestal as a monolithic tradition. I don’t teach that. I don’t like the way these Yoga teacher training courses make their students serve Yoga. Personally I don’t like that dogmatic approach. I don’t want to teach that Yoga is a religion that needs protecting. I want my students to use Yoga for their own lives and for their own healing journey. And then when they share it as teachers they will share it not as an ideology, but rather as something that has empowered them to let go and heal.
I am all about healing. But what does that mean literally? It means that the Bodhi Yoga practice is about your own personal journey of releasing and creating balance in your body and your life. So things like chronic pain, chronic fatigue, poor digestion, inflammation disorders, anxiety, depression, addiction, low self esteem, anger, a lack of direction or inspiration, and many more conditions are healed. And not only do you experience the journey of them being healed but you also know exactly HOW you healed them and how you can heal other imbalances in the future. That is my top most priority in the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali.
Finally, I have one more thing to say about this topic. Because Yoga for me is all about healing, then the process of learning Yoga deeply and using it to heal oneself is SIMPLE. I refuse to pretend that it is complicated! I refuse to do what I see some Yoga teacher trainings do and make Yoga a superstition. They talk about their knowledge in a way that makes people feel that if they don’t do it their particular way then it is wrong. I am sure that is a good marketing strategy, but I just don’t want to create complexes in people’s minds. As an example of this, I heard a Yoga teacher trainer say that stretching open the front of the neck causes the mind to think more, and only their course is teaching people not to stretch the front of the neck open, so their system is the correct system. This is nothing more than a belief. If you and I do a particular Yoga posture in a way that stretches open the front of neck/throat then we can feel whether it our minds think more as a result. And I can say from my own personal experience that it clearly doesn’t. So it is just a way for these people to talk superstitious nonsense, and then naive people believe it and buy into the con.
I am an alignment based Hatha Yoga teacher. I have been teaching alignment based Yoga for seventeen years. And I have been training Yoga teachers for five years. So I know proper alignment. And that is something I love to share with my students in the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training. But I always let the students know that there is no wrong or right way to do things. I tell them that there are many ways to skin a cat and I am just offering the ways to practice that offered the best results for healing – from my own personal experience and the experience of my students. And when they do each Yoga posture in different ways they can feel which way is best for them. I don’t want my students to be dogmatic. I want them to know the practice, firstly through feeling and experiencing it directly in their own body. And secondly through exploring it as a teacher and working with other students and observing different possibilities. In that way their knowledge is direct from their own experience.
Three Values Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali – #2 Becoming Skilful Teachers
Because I love teaching Yoga, and I feel that you will love teaching Yoga too, I decided that the second most important value was that students should graduate with a high level of skill and confidence as Yoga teachers. Personally I have found that teaching Yoga is itself very healing work. Sharing this beautiful practice from the heart with skill is also great for you, not just your students. You get the benefit too because you are holding space for your students. So I want people who do the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training to have that power to help others and enjoy their work. If you have those tools then you are empowered. It is such a blessing!
I often catch up with graduates of the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training and they often tell me how much they love their lives. They often say that the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training course created a huge shift for them. And some of that has to do with the fact that after they graduated they felt very confident and competent as Yoga teachers, so they started teaching right away. And this work has brought them a lot of joy and healing. Helping others heal will always help you heal. That is why I proud of the level of skill and confidence that graduates leave this course with.
Students in the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training get taught how to teach Yoga with knowledge of alignment cues, adjustments, good rhythm, excellent sequencing, how to use their voice, and connection.
Three Values Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali – #3 Friendships that last
Throughout the course we make sure we have fun and play as well as work hard. That way we can sustain high energy. Students congratulate each other on their teaching work. Students support each other and they feel like they are in a very safe space to learn and practice and share. Because of this the group forms a bond that lasts. Some students say it feels like a family.
It still impresses me that these friendships really last. Students connect and stay close long after the course is over. They meet up and get together. And some people have even become best friends. That makes me very happy.
I love to see my students shine. I love to see them go on to do great things. There are many graduates from the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training who are doing big things in the Yoga industry. I simply feel that I am proud of their work and I am glad I got to be a part of their journey of fulfilling their dreams. This is the power of us sharing from our wisdom and knowledge from that original intention for healing.

It has been my experience that each time I teach the Yoga Teacher Training Bali Gratitude is one of the most consistent reoccurring feelings.
At the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali Gratitude is an important part of the journey for me.
There are a few reasons why I feel gratitude is a key element in the course. One reason is that as a teacher or a student everyone is coming together to support each other. It is a powerful thing when a group of people come together and hold space for one another to learn for a couple of weeks. Lasting friendships are made and you yourself learn and demonstrate how to be there for others. It involves service and sacrifice being there for each other. Whether you are practicing your teaching one on one with another student, or you are attending a final class by one of the students in the group, there are plenty of opportunities for you to be present for others and have others be present for you. That itself is healing. That is sharing. And when I witness that energy flowing throughout the course then I know that by the end many students feel like we have become family. I feel gratitude for that.
Are you getting what you paid for?
I have often felt that if you get what you paid for in a Yoga Teacher Training then you got ripped off. For students at the Yoga Teacher Training Bali gratitude is a lasting vibration that continues after the course. I feel that is because a truly great Yoga Teacher Training gives you something that money absolutely cannot buy. It comes from the Yoga Teacher Trainer taking their years and years of Yoga teaching experience, thousands of hours of experience teaching and Yoga practice, and sharing that with you in a way that is fun and helps you become the best Yoga teacher you could possibly be. That is a great task. And all of those years of dedication and love for their work cannot be bought. But they love what they do. And they want to share it with you. So they offer it in the form of a healing Yoga Teacher Training course. And it truly changes your life forever. So it is a real joy to feel their gratitude and keep in contact long after the Yoga Teacher Training course is over.
Most of my Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training graduates are in close contact with me. We often keep in touch on facebook. And sometimes when I travel to other countries or visiting other cities I meet up with my students. I feel that once my students graduate from the course that we are friends. I like keeping in touch and I like being able to offer any advice or help that they might need either with their Yoga teaching work or their Yoga practice. Many times long after the course has finished graduates sent me Yoga sequences they had written for classes that they were teaching and asked if I would take a look and give them some feedback. I did it happily. At no cost whatsoever. I don’t know of any Yoga teacher trainer in the world who does that for their graduates. That is one reason why I say that if you get what you paid for then you got ripped off. I give give give from my heart because I love my work and I love my students. I am grateful to them for their love and choosing me as their teacher.
I take care of my friendships. And for me I consider my Bodhi Yoga teacher training graduates as friends. I value our friendships and this community of Bodhi Yoga Teachers. And to illustrate this point I can tell you that as I write this blog post, I am currently visiting New Zealand teaching the Yin Yoga Teacher Training in Mount Maunganui. While I am here I am staying in the house of one of my graduates. Her name is Coka. She is doing amazing work with her Yoga business – Yoga Tribe. So I feel that this energy flows both ways. I am grateful to have amazing beautiful students. And they are grateful to have me as their teacher. To them I say, deeply, thank you.
I know that there are many Yoga Teacher Trainings out there that mass produce and pump out large numbers of graduates without much individual care or attention. That’s their choice. And perhaps they attract people to those courses that don’t want their teacher to ever know them personally. For example one of my friends, Martina, attended a Yoga teacher training a couple of years ago and she said she was in a group of thirty one people. Martina said she was surprised if any of the teachers actually knew her name! Martina also was shocked when after having just completed her final assessment the assistant teacher who assessed her final asked her only about an hour later if she had taught get. What that means is the assessor wasn’t ever paying attention to WHO it was that was teaching! They just passed everyone in a very mechanical way just like a factory production line. Just ticking boxes.
Yoga Teacher Training Bali Gratitude
Once I remember one of my teachers quoting Shakespeare, “How sharper than a serpent’s tooth it is to have a thankless child!” Although it seemed quite dramatic at the time, I understand now what he meant. To see a student who has been given so much by their teacher and taken so much of their wisdom and years of experience, and then walk away without appreciation or really deep acknowledgement….. I would not wish that on any sincere and generous teacher. Great students deserve great teachers. And so to deserve a great teacher, come with humility and appreciation for the sacrifice and love that your teacher is willing to share with you. And that connection of friendship will last for years to come.

I suggest when you join any course where you are going to be physically active like a Yoga teacher training zinc deficiency is something you want to avoid. That is why when I speak to students asking about which supplements to take with them to the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training course, one of the answers is Zinc.
Yoga Teacher Training zinc deficiency
At any good Yoga Teacher Training course you will be using your body in creative and playful ways. You will be moving and stretching in ways that can be fun and challenging. That doesn’t mean that you have to be an advanced practitioner to attend, but it does mean you will work hard and progress a lot.
If you want to be at a better level of vitality for this Yoga teacher training journey, there is a simple piece of advice. I recommend taking a zinc supplement starting a couple of weeks before the course commences and continue during the course. It will help you feel energised and healthier. When you need to get up early to practice in the morning you will have a bit more get up and go.
Besides there are many benefits to zinc supplementation. Some of these are a higher ability to focus and concentrate. That is a very important thing when you are listening to your Yoga teacher throughout the day learning the techniques and practicing teaching them.
Zinc is also very important for digestion. You want to make sure your digestive function is working optimally because you want to enjoy the delicious foods. Meal times during the Yoga Teacher Training should be a pleasant experience sharing with the group.
Furthermore zinc is essential for the immune system. If you want to have be well throughout the Yoga Teacher Training deficiency should be avoided. There are many other benefits to zinc too, such as radiant healthy beautiful skin.
Here in this photo is one of my previous Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training graduates Kimiko during an afternoon Yoga posture clinic. This is a class where we break down specific postures and their adjustments. After students have learnt all the details from my guidance they break up in groups to practice teaching with each other. The posture in this photo is an advanced one. It is called set bandhasana. There are some easier modifications for those who cannot get into the fullest expression of the pose.
Remember to come to the course without any unnecessary nutritional deficiencies. Take your zinc regularly.
Here is a video about 4 signs that you are not getting enough zinc.

In July 2015 Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali graduate Ryan Mannix returned to Melbourne to share what he had learnt during the course. He experienced the natural unfolding of his career as a confident and skilled Yoga teacher. He immediately got work teaching at some of the top Yoga studios in Melbourne. And very quickly his classes became so popular that he was offered prime spots on the timetable. He received rave feedback from students who attended his classes. And also had the owners of the studios applauding him for his great work.
All of this came from being a Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali graduate and the experience that it gave him. Not only did it train him and qualify him to a high level as a Yoga teacher, but it also gave him a deep healing experience.
Watch this video to see this Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali graduate share from the heart about his journey
Ryan’s healing journey as a Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training Bali graduate is a common experience for people who join this course. It is a program that is designed to connect you with your heart. It gives you the experience of your own connection to your body and your heart, which is the foundation of all healing.
Healing is all about letting go. And we do that by being be present in our bodies here and now. In the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training course we learn to do that as we practice the Yoga postures and when we teach Yoga to others. In that way it becomes a shared healing experience.
This program is designed so that each student could dive deep into their Yoga practice. Students learn to access their own healing power. Your own healing power lies within you. Knowing that is incredibly empowering and freeing. If you have the skills and the confidence to heal yourself and help heal others then your capacity for growth and sharing is without limits!
In this fun little video Ryan talks one on one with his teacher about the mind and Yoga.
